Devotional For February 17, 2024

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
Hebrews 12:14

Peace is more than just the absence of conflict; it is a state of harmony. As followers of Christ, we are called to actively pursue peace in our relationships with others. This means seeking reconciliation and forgiveness, practicing empathy and understanding, and striving to live in harmony with those around us. It also means being peacemakers in a world filled with strife and division.

Holiness is the quality of being set apart for God’s purposes and conforming to His character and will. It involves living a life of moral purity, righteousness, and obedience to God’s Word. We are called to continually strive for holiness, allowing God to sanctify us and transform us into the image of Christ.

As we seek to pursue peace and holiness in our lives, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is our ultimate example of peace and holiness, and He empowers us by the Holy Spirit to live lives that reflect His love and grace. May we be diligent in our pursuit of peace with all people and holiness before God, knowing that it is through these virtues that others will see the reality of our faith and the beauty of the gospel message.

Pray

Lord, help me to pursue peace with everyone and holiness before You. Give me grace and strength to reflect Your love and truth to the world around me. May I be an agent of reconciliation and an ambassador of Your kingdom, bringing glory to Your name in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Devotional For February 16, 2024

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,
II Thessalonians 1:3

In his letter to the Thessalonian church, the apostle Paul expresses his gratitude for the faith and love demonstrated by the believers in Thessalonica. He acknowledges the growth of their faith and the overflowing abundance of love they have for one another.

The faith of the Thessalonian believers was dynamic and vibrant. It was a living faith that continued to grow and mature as they walked with the Lord. Their faith was characterized by trust, obedience, and perseverance in the face of trials and tribulations. And as their faith grew, so did their confidence in God’s faithfulness and provision.

In addition to their growing faith, the Thessalonian believers demonstrated a remarkable love for one another. Their love was not superficial or self-serving but genuine and sacrificial. It was a love that sought the well-being of others above their own, a love that reflected the love of Christ Himself. Their love was evident in their actions.

We should be inspired to cultivate similar qualities in our own lives. May we be people of growing faith, trusting in God’s promises and relying on His strength to sustain us through every trial and challenge we face. And may we be people of abundant love, seeking opportunities to serve and bless others, and to build up the body of Christ in unity and love.

Pray

Lord, thank You for the example of the Thessalonian believers and for what You are doing in my life. Help me to grow in faith and abound in love, that I may reflect Your character and bring glory to Your name. Let my life be a testimony to Your grace and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬

In Acts 3, we encounter a powerful demonstration of the power of the name of Jesus. Peter and John encountered a man who had been lame from birth, begging for money at the temple gate called Beautiful. The man looked to them, expecting to receive some assistance, but what he received instead was far greater—a miraculous healing that would forever change his life.

When the name of Jesus was invoked, and the man, who had been crippled for years, was instantaneously healed. He leaped to his feet, praising God, and entered the temple courts with joy and amazement. His life was forever changed by the power of the name of Jesus.

This passage serves as a reminder of the authority and power that resides in the name of Jesus. It is not merely a name but a representation of the person and character of Jesus Christ Himself. In His name, miracles are performed, chains are broken, and lives are transformed.

As followers of Christ, we have been entrusted with the privilege of carrying the name of Jesus wherever we go. We are called to walk in His footsteps, to embody His love and compassion, and to proclaim His gospel to the ends of the earth. And just as Peter and John did, we are called to boldly declare the name of Jesus, knowing that in His name, lives are changed and destinies are altered.

May we never underestimate the power of the name of Jesus. May we have the faith to believe that in His name, mountains can be moved, storms can be calmed, and the impossible can become possible. And may we, like the man who was healed at the temple gate, respond with gratitude and praise for the life-transforming power of Jesus’ name.

Pray

Lord, thank You for allowing me to use Your name, which is above every name. Help me to walk in the authority and power that Your name represents. May I never cease to marvel at the life-transforming power of Your great name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
