And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬

One of the best things at this time of year is seeing all the lights and decorations people up. It’s fun to drive around and see all the houses and lawns lit up. People can get really creative with their displays.

Just as Christmas lights brighten the darkness so does the light of Jesus. Jesus fills us with joy, hope and peace. When we are in the midst of a dark season the light of Jesus gives us what we need to keep going.

The KJV and NKJV, say that the darkness did not comprehend the light. The NLT says the darkness can never extinguish it. The NIV and ESV say the darkness has not overcome it. The NASB says the darkness did not grasp it. What does your version say?

Here’s what we can say about the light of Jesus Christ: it is so complex that man can never completely understand it, the world cannot grasp it, man can never put it out, and darkness can never overcome it. Now that is quite a light.

Jesus Christ brings light to those who put their trust in Him. His light brings us out of darkness. In His light, we are able to see ourselves as we really are, as God sees us, sinners who need a Savior. His light removes the darkness of sin in our lives and leads us into paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

Let His light shine so bright in your life that others are filled with joy when they see your faith.

Pray

Lord, let Your light shine through me. Help me to be an encouragement to those who need it. When it gets dark in my own life, help me to see Your glory shines bright. In Jesus’ name, amen.

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬

After the sin in the Garden of Eden, God’s mercy and redemptive plan began to unfold. This verse marks the first announcement of the coming Savior, the Seed of the woman, who would engage in a battle against the serpent, representing sin and evil.

The promise of enmity between the woman’s Seed and the serpent signifies the ongoing struggle between good and evil throughout history. The imagery of bruising the serpent’s head and enduring a bruised heel suggests a costly battle – a battle that Christ, the ultimate Seed, would willingly undertake to rescue mankind from sin.

As we journey through this Christmas season, be reminded that God’s redemptive plan is at work, and the victory over sin has been secured through Jesus Christ. In our daily struggles, we can find hope and strength, knowing that the Seed of the woman has triumphed over the serpent, and through faith, we share in that victory.

Pray

Lord, thank You for the promise of redemption. Help me to trust in the victory secured by the Seed of the woman, Jesus Christ. Help me find strength as I face the challenges of life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Devotional For December 17, 2023

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.
‭‭Micah‬ ‭5‬:‭2‬

In the small, humble town of Bethlehem, a divine promise unfolded. The prophecy of Micah revealed the birthplace of a Ruler destined to guide and shepherd God’s people. Despite Bethlehem’s insignificance in the eyes of the world, God chose this small town to be the place of profound significance.

This verse reminds us that God often works in unexpected places and through the seemingly insignificant. Just as Bethlehem was a tiny little village, our lives might feel small and unnoticed, yet God’s plans for us are grand and purposeful. In the simplicity of our lives, God can bring forth extraordinary blessings and fulfill His promises.

As we reflect on Micah 5:2, let us find comfort and hope in the realization that God’s ways are beyond our understanding. The Ruler born in Bethlehem is not merely a temporal leader but an eternal one, whose origins are from everlasting. In the midst of life’s uncertainties, let us trust in the enduring nature of God’s promises and find peace in His unwavering love for us.

Pray

Lord, I know Your plans and purpose for my life are special and extraordinary. Help me to never settle for something that is not from You. Help me to understand that You want to do great things in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
