Devotional For February 8, 2024

As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬

The writer of Ecclesiastes reflects on the nature of wealth and possessions but also acknowledges them as gifts from God. This passage emphasizes that true enjoyment and satisfaction in life come not from the accumulation of wealth itself but from recognizing it as a blessing and gift from God. It encourages contentment and gratitude for the provision and opportunities that God graciously bestows upon His people.

In our materialistic society, it’s easy to equate wealth and possessions with happiness and fulfillment. However, we are reminded that true joy is found not in the abundance of our possessions but in our relationship with God and our attitude towards His blessings.

When we recognize that everything we have comes from God, we can approach wealth and possessions with a spirit of gratitude and stewardship. Rather than hoarding our resources for selfish gain, we can use them to bless others and advance God’s kingdom. This includes not only financial wealth but also the talents, abilities, and opportunities He has given us.

Moreover, the writer of Ecclesiastes teaches us the importance of finding satisfaction in our work and daily labor. Whether we are engaged in our careers, serving in our communities, or caring for our families, we can find purpose and meaning in our efforts when we recognize them as gifts from God. By approaching our work with diligence and integrity, we honor God and experience the joy of fulfilling His purposes for our lives.

Pray

Lord, thank You for the riches and blessings You have bestowed upon me. Help me to view wealth and possessions as gifts from Your hand and to steward them wisely for Your glory. Keep me from the trap of materialism and teach me to find true joy in You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
