Devotional For January 19, 2024

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭5‬

Jesus illustrates the intimate relationship between believers and Himself. As branches draw life and nourishment from the vine, we, too, are called to abide in Christ.

Sometimes our words and actions do not reflect the life Jesus expects from his followers. This happens when we don’t put Jesus first. When we don’t take our walk with Jesus serious we allow the devil a chance to control our actions, speech and mindset. There’s no place for the devil when you’re filled with the Spirit.

The key application is recognizing our dependence on Christ. Apart from Jesus, our efforts are useless. To bear fruit in our lives, we must remain connected to the source of life – Jesus Christ.

Pray

Lord, help me abide in You daily. I recognize my dependence on Your strength and guidance. Just as a branch relies on the vine for sustenance, I acknowledge my need for You in every aspect of my life. May my actions bear fruit that glorifies You. In moments of self-reliance, draw me back to You, the true source of life. In Jesus’ name, amen
