Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
Philippians 2:3
Question
Where is God calling you to lay aside selfish ambition and choose humility today?
Context
Paul writes to the church at Philippi urging them to walk in unity and love. Division was starting to creep in, and Paul knew the cure wasn’t stronger personalities or louder voices, it was humility shaped by the example of Christ. Immediately after this verse, Paul points to Jesus, who “made Himself nothing” and took on the form of a servant. Humility is the heartbeat of Christlike living.
Application
Paul teaches that selfish ambition and pride always tear down, but humility builds up. When we choose to honor others, prefer others, and serve others, we reflect the nature of Jesus Himself. Humility is not weakness; it is spiritual strength under God’s control. When we humble ourselves, we make room for God to lift us up (James 4:10).
Truth For The Day
True humility isn’t thinking less of yourself — it’s thinking of yourself less.
Pray
Lord, help me walk in the humility of Jesus. Remove any selfish ambition or pride in my heart. Teach me to value others the way You value them. Make me a servant, not just in words but in actions. Let my life reflect the humility of Christ so others can see Your love in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
