Victory Over Sin

‘Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.’
Psalms 32:1

God has the power to forgive and forget our sin. The Bible makes it clear that the first step in receiving forgiveness is repentance. Jesus’ first mandate in His earthly ministry was repentance. Repent and be baptized.

When we try to hide our sin or justify why we sin, we fall into a trap of the Devil. The enemy doesn’t want us in fellowship with God and free from sin. Instead he entangles us into being bound up by the consequences and shame of sin.

There is power in the life of the Believer who is forgiven and set free. As we see in today’s verse, “Blessed is he whose sin is forgiven.” This is true on the day of salvation when we repented of our sinful life and it is true every time we confess our faults to God.

Great blessings await those who confess and repent of their sin. Fellowship with God is restored and we experience the love of Jesus that was shown toward us when He died on the cross.

If you find yourself falling into sinful habits and not grieving over them or confessing them to God, this indicates that you are not abiding in Christ. Return to Him in repentance; restore your fellowship with Him, and you will experience the victory over your sin.

Pray

Lord, I confess and repent of my sins. Restore my relationship and fellowship with You. Renew the joy of thy salvation in my heart. Cleanse me and make me new.

Choosing To Live Right

Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Romans 6:6

There are a lot of Christians that have the mindset they are destined to fail. They think they will never experience victory, joy, and peace on this side of heaven. And in response they give in to temptation and sin.

We don’t have to be plagued by defeat. In fact we can experience power and victory over temptation and sin. The choose is ours to be made.

In Christ, we have been redeemed and saved from the power of sin. Sin no longer dominates our life. We are released from being slaves to sin.

As Christians, we have victory! We have the power of the Holy Spirit of God living inside of us because Jesus conquered the cross and the grave. We have new life in Christ.

We have the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome temptation and sin. But the choice is up to each individual to live in newness of life. God desires we live the best life on this side of heaven.

Living in righteousness is somewhat compared to dieting. When you resist unhealthy food and drinks and consume what is healthy we can lose weight. It takes much discipline and will power to lose weight.

Living in the will of God requires death. We must die to self and be resurrected to new life in Christ. We must choose to live in righteousness. As Christians we have the power to overcome.

What choices are you going to make today to live more like Christ?

Pray

Lord, I choose to serve You today. I desire to do Your will and not my own. Give me courage and wisdom to overcome evil and live in the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

A New Year

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.
Romans 7:18

It’s a new day and a fresh new year! The question at hand is, “What does God desire to accomplish in and through me this year?”

Many people are asking God what they can do for Him, but more importantly we should be asking God what He wants to accomplish through us. This life is much more than just what we can do for God. It’s about what He can do in and through us.

God does not need us, but He chooses us. He desires to use people to display His image and glory. People need to see the love of God in us so they can know Him.

Paul says that nothing good dwells in us, that which is in the flesh. The flesh is never good enough to please God. It’s only through the righteousness of Jesus that we are found righteous before God.

So instead of striving to do something good for God, let’s allow God to do something good in and through us for His glory.

Set your mind on the things of God.

Pray

Lord, I praise You for taking away my sin. Help me to keep my sinful nature dead and the new nature alive in You. Thank You for doing a good work through me.
