The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭17‬-‭18‬

In times of trouble and distress, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and alone. We may be tempted to question whether God hears our prayers or cares about our struggles. However, today’s verses reassure us of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness to His people.

First, we are reminded that the Lord hears the cries of the righteous. No matter how desperate or dire our circumstances may seem, God is always attentive to the prayers of His people. He is not indifferent to our pain or suffering but is actively involved in our lives, working on our behalf to deliver us from all our troubles.

Second, we are comforted by the promise that the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart. In moments of grief, loss, or disappointment, God draws near to us with His comforting presence. He is our refuge and strength, offering peace to those who turn to Him in their time of need.

If you’re in a season of distress or brokenness, take comfort in the promises of Psalm 34:17-18. Know that God is with you, and He hears your prayers. Cry out to Him in faith, and trust in His unfailing love to sustain you and bring you through every trial. If you know someone who is in need of encouragement, pass this truth along to them.

Pray

Lord, thank You for Your promise to hear the cries of Your people and to draw near to those who are brokenhearted. In times of trouble and distress, help me to turn to You in faith, knowing that You are my ever-present help in times of need. May Your comforting presence bring peace and healing to my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
‭‭II Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬

In 2 Peter 2, the apostle Peter warns against false prophets and teachers who lead others astray with their deceptive ways. In verse 16, Peter references the story of Balaam, a prophet who was enticed by the promise of wealth and honor to curse God’s people. However, God intervened, using a donkey to speak truth and prevent Balaam from falling to his own greed and folly.

The story of Balaam serves as a reminder of the dangers of pursuing temporary pleasures and worldly gain. Like Balaam, we may be tempted to compromise our integrity or stray from God’s path in pursuit of selfish desires. However, just as God intervened to restrain Balaam, He also provides warnings and guidance to protect us from falling into sin.

Instead of chasing after selfish satisfactions, let us fix our eyes on the eternal promises of God. May we seek His will above our own desires, trusting in His wisdom and guidance to lead us on the path of righteousness.

As we encounter moments of temptation or distraction, may we remember the story of Balaam and the donkey. Let us heed the warnings of Scripture and allow God’s Word to guide our thoughts, words, and actions. By surrendering our desires to God and seeking His kingdom above all else, we can experience true fulfillment and lasting joy.

Pray

Lord, guard my heart and mind against the deceitfulness of sin and worldly pleasures. Help me to prioritize Your will above my desires, seeking Your kingdom above all else. Give me wisdom and discernment to recognize and resist temptation, and may Your Word be a lamp to guide my steps. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭9‬

Paul’s warning about the influence of leaven serves as a powerful metaphor for the nature of sin and false teaching. Just as a small amount of leaven can affect the entire lump of dough, so too can even a minor compromise with sin or false doctrine have consequences in the life of a believer and the church.

It is crucial to guard against the infiltration of sin and false teaching that can undermine our faith and lead us astray. The enemy often seeks to deceive and divide God’s people through subtle lies and half-truths, enticing us to compromise our convictions and stray from the path of righteousness.

Paul’s warning challenges us to examine our own lives. Are there areas of disobedience that we have allowed to creep in our hearts? Are there false beliefs that we have embraced, without testing them against the truth of God’s Word?

As followers of Christ, we are called to be vigilant and discerning. We must immerse ourselves in God’s Word, allowing it to serve as a safeguard against deception and error. Rely on the Holy Spirit to empower you to resist temptation and stand firm in the truth.

Pray

Lord, help me to be diligent and discerning, guarding against the influence of sin and false teachings. Give me wisdom and strength to stand firm in faith, rooted and grounded in Your Word. May I be a beacon of truth and righteousness in a world filled with deception and darkness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
