that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬

The apostle Paul expresses his deep longing to know Christ intimately. He emphasizes the amazing power of knowing Jesus, both in the joy of resurrection and in the fellowship of His sufferings. This verse focuses on Paul’s desire to keep in a close walk and relationship with Christ.

Paul’s heartfelt desire to be close to Christ involves experiencing the power of Christ’s resurrection, sharing in His sufferings, and ultimately becoming more like Him.

If our desire is to know Christ more deeply then we must seek to experience Jesus’ resurrection power in our daily life. To experience His resurrection power means to trust that Christ has victory over sin and death. Additionally, be willing to participate in His sufferings, understanding that challenges can deepen your connection with Him. Ultimately, the goal is to become more like Christ in every aspect of your life.

Pray

Lord, ignite in me a passionate desire to know You more intimately. Help me to experience the power of Your resurrection in my life and to be ready to share in Your sufferings. Transform me so that I reflect Your love, grace, and character. In Jesus’ name, amen.

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭25‬

In John 12, Jesus speaks to a crowd, emphasizing the importance of selflessness. The verse highlights that clinging too tightly to earthly desires can lead to spiritual loss. However, a willingness to surrender worldly pursuits can lead to the discovery of true and eternal life.

Jesus challenges us to examine our priorities. In a culture that often values personal gain, Jesus calls us to a different perspective. True life, according to Christ, is found in a sacrificial surrender to God’s will and eternal purpose.

As we surrender our ambitions, desires, and plans to God, we open ourselves to the abundant life Jesus promises. May our choices reflect a willingness to put God’s kingdom first, trusting that in losing our lives for His sake, we find the true and eternal life He offers.

Pray

Lord, help me to surrender completely to Your will. I am willing to let go of earthly desires and self-centered pursuits, trusting that true and eternal life is found in following You. Grant me the strength to live sacrificially for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Devotional For January 8, 2024

Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up.
‭‭Acts‬ ‭27‬:‭20‬

The apostle Paul, along with fellow prisoners and sailors, faced a severe storm during a trip to Rome. The storm raged for many days, forcing everyone into despair as hope of survival seemed slim. The situation appeared dire by those aboard the ship.

We are going to encounter storms—whether literal or metaphorical—that will challenge our sense of hope. Acts 27:20 reflects the human experience of reaching a point where circumstances appear overwhelmingly bleak. Yet, it is precisely in such moments that we find an opportunity to anchor our hope in something greater than ourselves.

We must always remember that even in the darkest of times, God is our anchor. When all seems lost, His promises remain true. As we face uncertainties and challenges, may our hope be rooted in who God is. He brings peace to the storm and guides us safely through.

Pray

Lord, as storms arise in my life and hope seems to be lost, remind me of Your unfailing promises. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your sovereignty, knowing that even in the darkest moments, You are my anchor of hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
